The Metrocable transportation system connects hillside communities to the central metro line through a network of cable cars suspended above the city.
The 2004 inauguration of Metrocable marked the first implementation of gondola lifts for mass urban transit in South America.
The system transformed access to employment and education for residents of peripheral neighborhoods who previously faced extended commute times.
Six operational lines transport approximately 30,000 passengers daily, integrating with the metro system through multimodal stations across Medellín.
The cable car network reduces travel duration from mountain communities to the city center from 2.5 hours to 30 minutes.
