Daphne is a coastal municipality located on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay in Baldwin County, Alabama. The city spans residential neighborhoods crossed by Interstate 10, which connects Mobile and Montgomery.
The original settlement was called Village of Bell Rose and became Baldwin County's administrative center in 1868 after the previous seat in Blakeley closed. This transition marked the beginning of the town's growth as a key administrative hub.
Italian immigrants founded the town in 1888 and built the Church of the Assumption, which gained recognition from Queen Margherita of Italy in 1898. The church remains a focal point of local identity and reflects the community's European roots.
