Museo Casa de Alfeñique, Colonial art museum in Centro Histórico, Puebla, Mexico
Museo Casa de Alfeñique is an 18th-century mansion with elaborate stucco decorations covering its facade, resembling candy-like ornaments. The building holds regional furniture, religious paintings, and decorative arts from the colonial period.
The museum opened in 1926 and was the first of its kind in Puebla. It preserves artifacts and documents spanning from the colonial era through Mexico's independence period.
The rooms display furniture and artworks that show how Spanish and indigenous traditions blended together in this region. The pieces reveal how people lived with both influences in their daily colonial life.
Visitors can come Tuesday through Sunday, and it helps to check hours ahead of time. The building is located in the historic center and easy to reach on foot, with regular stairs inside.
The name comes from alfeñique, a traditional sugar paste used in local confections, which the white stucco decorations resemble. This connection to regional candy-making craft makes the building's exterior appearance quite distinctive.
