Church of Chonchi

The Church of Chonchi sits at the town's highest point and combines a stone base with cypress wood construction. The building displays typical architectural features of the Chiloé region and functions today as both an active place of worship and museum.

The site originated as a chapel established by Jesuits in 1767, while the current building was constructed in 1893 following regional traditions. This development reflects the growth of religious presence in this island community.

The church is named after Saint Charles Borromeo and continues to serve the local community as a place of worship today. Annual celebrations on November 4 bring people together for traditional religious observances.

The tower suffered damage from a severe storm in 2002, which local craftsmen repaired between 2004 and 2005 using traditional techniques. This restoration demonstrates the community's commitment to preserving the landmark with classical methods.
