Chiloé National Park, National park in Dalcahue, Chile.
Chiloé National Park spreads across protected land with dense temperate rainforest, coastal dunes, lakes, and mountain peaks. The landscape combines several different environment types within a single area.
The park was created in 1983 to protect the natural ecosystems of Chiloé Island. The region had long been home to Huilliche indigenous communities.
The surrounding communities built wooden churches in their own architectural style, and these structures remain central to village life today. They show how local people expressed their faith through distinctive construction methods passed down through generations.
You can enter through the Cucao sector, where information centers and marked trails are available for visitors. The area is open year-round, though weather conditions vary significantly by season.
Metalqui Island, part of the park, hosts colonies of sea lions and serves as critical habitat for native bird species found nowhere else nearby. This island shows how the park protects marine wildlife alongside forest ecosystems.
