Side Ancient City

The ancient city of Side extends across a peninsula with stone streets leading to temples, monuments, gates, and a large Roman theater.

Founded in the 7th century BC, Side developed from a Lydian settlement into a major Roman port city before declining due to Arab raids.

The archaeological museum, housed in restored Roman baths, displays sculptures, pottery, and architectural elements from multiple civilizations that inhabited Side.

Visitors can explore the ancient theater, Apollo Temple, agora, and other structures through designated pathways marked with informational signs.

The theater construction combines traditional Roman architecture with local engineering by supporting upper seating rows on an artificial inclined plane.
