Kulturort Depot

Kulturort Depot is an arts center housed in a former tram maintenance facility that spans multiple levels with exhibition spaces, performance areas, artist studios, and creative workspaces. The repurposed building now serves as a venue for rotating exhibitions, theater productions, and various artistic activities.

The building originally served as the main workshop for maintaining and repairing Dortmund's trams before the system declined. Its conversion into a cultural venue in 2001 gave it new purpose as a home for artists and cultural professionals.

Around forty artists, associations, and creative professionals maintain working studios and offices here, spanning disciplines from architecture to photography. Walking through the building, visitors encounter these practitioners engaged in their daily creative work.

Visiting works best when you take time to explore the different floors and artist studios, where you may encounter the practitioners at work. Weekend events and markets happen regularly, so checking ahead helps you find what is happening during your visit.

The winter night flea market blends vintage shopping with live music in the artificially lit spaces of the building. This evening event creates a special setting where visitors browse antiques while musicians perform.
