Avalon Beach

Avalon Beach extends for about 500 meters along the coast with golden sand and a distinctive sandstone cliff at its southern end, where a natural rock pool sits surrounded by stone walls. The shoreline is shaped by natural formations that create distinct areas for different water activities.

The area received its first European land grant in 1827 to John Farrell. Since then it grew from a remote coastal property into a popular local beach destination.

The northern section is known among longboard surfers who favor its waves, while the southern area with its natural rock pool draws swimmers and casual visitors. Both zones reflect how locals use this beach for different purposes throughout the day.

The beach has shaded park areas, barbecue facilities, and a skate park, with nearby shops selling surf gear and food options. Plan your visit around tides as they affect water conditions and swimming safety throughout the day.

The southern section contains a natural rock pool that functions like a built-in ocean bath carved into the stone, which many visitors overlook when focused on the main surf breaks. It provides a sheltered swimming spot that feels separate from the open waves.
