Gumbalimba Park, Eco-adventure park in Roatan, Honduras
Gumbalimba Park is an eco-adventure park on Roatán island with botanical gardens, animal sanctuaries, and activity zones throughout its grounds. Wooden walkways connect all the different areas and wind through the tropical vegetation on the property.
The park was founded in 2003 and features a collection of pirate artifacts from the Bay Islands displayed in a cave exhibition. These objects document the maritime past of the region and its history as a pirate stronghold.
White-faced capuchin monkeys roam freely through their areas and display their curious behavior up close for visitors to watch. You can see how these animals interact with their surroundings and go about their daily routines.
The park is open during the day and offers guided tours to help visitors navigate the different zones. Wear comfortable walking shoes since the pathways are sometimes uneven and wind through vegetation.
The insectarium holds a large collection of preserved insects from many different regions. Additionally, transparent kayaks allow visitors to observe marine animals beneath the water surface.
