Monte Cantabria

Monte Cantabria is a hill rising about 500 meters above sea level near Logroño, with a distinctive flat summit that spans several kilometers. Its plateau surface is ringed by steep cliffs and supports vineyards across the top.

Archaeological digs have uncovered remains of a fortified settlement dating to the 4th century BC, built by the ancient Berones people who inhabited the region. These findings indicate the site served as an important stronghold for early inhabitants.

The summit serves as a gathering place where locals come for outdoor activities and community celebrations throughout the year. You'll find people enjoying the hilltop for recreation and social events.

Several marked trails start from Logroño's cemetery and lead to the summit, with some routes following sections of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage path. The trails are well-marked and accessible for visitors of different fitness levels.

The hill contains fossils of Elephas Antiquus from the Middle Quaternary period, revealing that ancient elephants once roamed this area. These paleontological discoveries provide insight into the prehistoric animal life of the region.
