Titou Gorge is a natural gorge in Saint George Parish featuring towering volcanic rock walls and a channel of fresh water. Several waterfalls cascade through the passage, creating pools where visitors can swim.
The gorge formed through ancient volcanic activity when cooled lava created deep fissures in the rock. Over time, flowing water shaped these cracks into the canyon system seen today.
The name comes from local Creole and means 'little throat', a fitting description for how the narrow passages connect the chambers inside.
Bring water shoes and swimming gear to navigate safely through the channels and pools. Life jackets are available on site, so ask staff about them when you arrive.
This location was used for filming scenes in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, with the actor playing Jack Sparrow navigating through the same water and rocks. Movie fans often recognize the passage from that adventure film.
