Daallo Mountain, جبل في أرض الصومال
Daallo Mountain is a protected area in the Sanaag Region that rises from the coastal plain into limestone peaks reaching about 4,000 feet (1,200 meters) within the Golis Range. The forest here holds thousands of plant species adapted to its mountain environment.
The mountain region shows evidence of early Somali settlements and preserves remnants of ancient cedar forests that date back over 1,000 years. Both human habitation and forest growth have shaped what exists here today.
Local communities have long relied on plants growing here, especially Adenium, Damas trees, and Aloe vera, for traditional healing and daily needs. These species remain central to how people in the region maintain their connection to the land.
January through March offers the best conditions for visiting, as temperatures stay moderate and weather is favorable for outdoor activities. Bring proper gear for mountain terrain and be prepared for varied conditions when exploring the area.
The forest is home to two rare bird species: the Warsangli linnet and the Socotra golden-winged grosbeak, both of which are recognized as important for global bird conservation. Birdwatchers come here specifically because these species are found nowhere else in such concentration.
