Nemouta Waterfall, Cascade system in Ancient Olympia, Greece.

Nemouta is a cascade system consisting of around 30 individual falls dropping between 15 and 25 meters (50 to 80 feet) distributed across two neighboring canyons. The falls sit near Mount Erymanthos and are fed by the Erymanthos River, which flows year-round.

The area surrounding the falls holds deep roots in ancient Greek mythology and is connected to the famous story of Hercules and his labors. The region has been considered sacred and historically important since antiquity.

The area around the falls has long been connected to fruit cultivation on the surrounding slopes, where apples are grown using age-old techniques. These fruits are processed in traditional ways and sold in small village shops, where visitors can see handmade products being prepared.

Access from the iron bridge parking area involves a short walk, with some helpful markers placed along the way. Visitors should wear suitable footwear since the paths become slippery in places, especially near the water.

The waterfall system remains active year-round, creating natural swimming pools along the river. These small pools nestled between the rocks sit beneath a dense forest canopy that keeps them cool and sheltered.
