Villa of Nero, Roman villa in Ancient Olympia, Greece.
The Villa of Nero is a Roman residential structure in Ancient Olympia with visible foundations, water systems, and architectural remains from the Roman period. The site displays typical features of a wealthy Roman residence from the first century.
The residence was constructed in the first century and served as a dwelling for high-ranking Roman officials of that period. Excavations uncovered important evidence about Roman material culture and daily life in this region.
The villa demonstrates how Roman building methods became adopted in Greece and influenced local construction traditions. Visitors can observe today how both cultures coexist within the remaining foundations and physical structures.
The site lies within the larger Archaeological Complex of Olympia and remains accessible throughout the year. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since the paths through the excavation area are uneven and often lack shade.
Excavations revealed an advanced water supply system with lead pipes inscribed with Roman markings, demonstrating engineering skill in distant territories. Such technical systems were uncommon in this region and period, showing the wealth of the owner.
