Leonidaion, Ancient accommodation building in Olympia, Greece
The Leonidaion features extensive columns, inner courtyards, and multiple rooms arranged in a rectangular layout measuring 80 meters in length and width.
Built around 300 BCE, the Leonidaion served as a residence for athletes and officials participating in the ancient Olympic Games until 394 CE.
The building design incorporated specific areas for athletes to prepare, rest, and gather before their competitions in the nearby Olympic stadium.
Modern visitors can access the archaeological site through guided tours that explain the function of different sections within the preserved stone foundations.
The structure contained an advanced water supply system with terracotta pipes that delivered fresh water to different sections of the building.
