Temple of Zeus in Olympia

The Temple of Zeus features six columns across the front and thirteen on the sides, constructed with local limestone and covered in white stucco point.

Construction of the temple began around 472 BC under architect Libon of Elis and reached completion by 456 BC as a testament to classical architecture.

The temple contained numerous marble sculptures depicting mythological scenes, including the chariot race between Pelops and Oenomaus on its front pediment.

The temple measures 236 feet in length, 98 feet in width, and reaches 68 feet in height, making it one of the largest temples in ancient Greece.

The temple housed a 43-foot-tall statue of Zeus made from gold and ivory, which became recognized as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
