Picchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve, Nature reserve in Santa Clara County, United States
Picchetti Ranch Open Space Preserve is a nature reserve in the foothills of Santa Clara County featuring forested canyons with madrone trees, coast live oak groves, and California bay forest sections spread across about 308 acres. The land preserves natural habitats with various trails and open spaces for public exploration.
The land was established in the 1880s by Vincenzo Picchetti, an Italian immigrant who planted vineyards and orchards on the property. His family operated the agricultural land for four generations before it became a protected area.
The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District manages educational programs about local biodiversity and conservation through guided nature walks and interpretive sessions.
The preserve is open from sunrise to sunset and has an 80-space parking lot plus roadside parking areas for visitors. Over 3.7 miles of marked trails are available for walking or biking.
The Zinfandel Trail runs about 1.9 miles through shaded fern-covered areas and seasonal creek beds that flow during wet months. This path connects the preserve directly to nearby Stevens Creek County Park.
