Peirou Lake, Artificial lake in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France

Peirou Lake is an artificial water body nestled in the Alpilles mountains near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. A dam spans between two rock cliffs, and the area features hiking paths that wind through a protected natural zone.

The dam was constructed to supply water to the nearby Roman archaeological site of Glanum. It represents one of the earliest vault dam structures and demonstrates the region's historical approach to water management.

The lake sits within the Provençal landscape where locals and visitors walk the surrounding paths as a way to connect with nature and the region's environment. The space reflects how communities in this area have learned to share land between human use and natural preservation.

The lake is accessible daily, but swimming is not permitted and dogs must be kept on leashes at all times. Wear sturdy footwear since the hiking paths cross uneven terrain.

Fishing is permitted with a special permit card that can be obtained locally. This opportunity draws regular visitors who practice their hobby in the peaceful waters of the reservoir.
