Peirou Lake, Artificial lake in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France
Peirou Lake, located in the Alpilles mountains, ends with a dam connecting two cliffs and provides hiking trails in a protected natural environment.
The Peirou dam, the first historical vault dam, was built to supply water to the nearby Roman archaeological site of Glanum.
The lake demonstrates local environmental management where human activities and nature preservation coexist in the Provençal landscape.
Visitors can access the lake daily from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, but swimming is prohibited and dogs must be kept on leashes.
Fishing enthusiasts can practice their activity with a special dam card, which is available at the Saint-Rémy-de-Provence Tourist Office.
