Wings of Mexico, Public sculpture in Downtown Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Wings of Mexico is a tall bronze piece by Jorge Marín standing on a three-tiered platform in Burj Plaza, a paved area between Dubai Mall and the lake. The work shows two open feathered wings fixed to a rectangular metal frame, with individual feathers cast in bronze and visible up close.
Jorge Marín created the piece as part of his Wings of the City project, which began in 2010. This version was installed at Burj Plaza in 2018, after identical wings had already appeared in Tel Aviv and Mexico City.
Visitors climb the steps and stand between the wings so they become part of the work, a gesture repeated in several cities where the same pair of wings has been placed. The wings act as a shared symbol, with people photographing themselves as if they had wings, the tall tower rising behind them.
The sculpture is free to visit and open at all hours, but a line often forms, so early morning or late evening is easier. Sunset and after dark give different backdrops, with the tower lit behind the bronze.
The wings in Dubai are not a single artwork but one of several identical copies given as permanent gifts to cities around the world. The first pair went to the port of Tel Aviv, and a later pair was donated to Mexico City.
