Playa Chuburna Puerto

Playa Chuburna Puerto features white sand beaches and turquoise waters along the northern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula, providing a quiet coastal retreat with shallow waters suitable for swimming and family activities.

The settlement was established as a coastal lookout point in 1663 during colonial times to protect against pirate attacks from Laguna de Términos, serving as an early warning system for nearby communities.

Located approximately 16 kilometers west of Progreso, the beach is accessible by car via Federal Highway 261 from Mérida, with the journey taking about 40 minutes from the state capital.

The area's sand dunes were naturally formed after Hurricane Gilbert struck in 1988, creating distinctive camping areas that offer perfect vantage points for sunset viewing and stargazing activities.
