Teatro Peón Contreras

The Teatro Peón Contreras features an Italian-style stage design with a wooden floor, dedicated orchestra pit, and seating capacity of 837 across multiple levels.

Inaugurated in 1908, the theater emerged from the vision of architects Pío Piacentini, Enroco Deserti, and Fernando Ceicola who created this cultural institution in Mérida.

The venue functions as the primary residence for the Yucatán Symphony Orchestra while presenting a diverse program of theatrical productions, operas, concerts, and dance performances.

The theater includes ten dressing rooms, props storage, rehearsal spaces, advanced lighting equipment, sound systems, and accommodations for visitors with disabilities.

The building contains a historical neoclassical French mural titled 'Las Musas' by Nicolás Alegretti, which underwent restoration to preserve its artistic heritage.
