Deokjin Park
Deokjin Park is a large public park in Jeonju featuring a sizable pond spanned by a stone bridge called Yeonhwagyo, which holds a small Korean-style library building called Yeonhwajeong Library at its center. Illuminated lighting at night highlights both the bridge and library, creating focal points throughout the landscaped grounds that include walking paths, pavilions, and play areas for families.
The park originates from the Koryo Dynasty around the 10th century, when the pond and surrounding land were created as a space for leisure and community gatherings. Over centuries, the site has been maintained and refined while preserving its traditional character as an important gathering place for the city.
The park is woven into the daily life of Jeonju residents, where families and couples come together to enjoy outdoor moments. The pathways and illuminated bridge are part of the city's rhythm, especially when lotus flowers bloom and people gather to see and photograph them.
The park is easily accessible by bus or taxi from downtown Jeonju and has no entry fee for visitors. Walking and biking trails are available throughout, and picnic areas are provided for those wanting to stay longer in the space.
The stone bridge Yeonhwagyo replaced an older suspension bridge that was beloved by many but removed for safety reasons. The new bridge with its nighttime lighting has become a fresh focal point that draws visitors who want to experience this reimagined landmark.
