Odunpazari evleri, Historic neighbourhood in Eskişehir, Turkey
Odunpazarı Evleri is a historic residential neighbourhood on the hills south of Eskişehir, Turkey, known for its Ottoman-era wooden houses. The two-storey buildings have decorated facades, bay windows, and small balconies, set along narrow and winding streets.
The neighbourhood is one of the oldest settled areas of Eskişehir and dates back to the Ottoman period. Over time, many houses were restored to keep their original appearance, and in 2007 a contemporary glass arts museum opened nearby.
The neighborhood has small workshops where artisans work with copper, carve wood, and sell antique objects. Beyler Street is known for its antique shops, while Kurşunlu Mosque Street is lined with shops selling handmade wooden toys.
The area is best explored on foot, as the streets are too narrow for vehicles. Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons to visit, when the weather stays mild.
The Ottoman traveler Evliya Çelebi mentioned this neighbourhood in his writings and praised it. Some streets still carry their old names and look much as they did when he passed through centuries ago.
