Tayfun Talipoğlu Typewriter Museum, Typewriter museum in Odunpazarı, Turkey
The Tayfun Talipoğlu Typewriter Museum is housed in a historic mansion and displays more than fifty typewriters from manufacturers including Olivetti, Remington Rand, Halda, Brother Industries, Alpina, and Facit. The machines are arranged throughout the rooms of the Şamlıoğlu Mansion to show different models from various periods.
The museum was established on 15 May 2016 and became the first institution in Turkey dedicated to preserving and displaying the history of typewriter technology. This founding marked an important moment for documenting this technological development in the country.
The museum displays wax figures of notable figures, including journalist Tayfun Talipoğlu and former prime minister Bülent Ecevit at his typewriter. These installations connect the history of writing machines with the people who used them.
The museum is located in the Şamlıoğlu Mansion in the Odunpazarı neighborhood and is open daily except Mondays. Visitors can join guided tours that explain the collection and demonstrate how the different machines work.
The museum allows visitors to type on different historical machines and experience the distinct feel of each writing technology. This provides a hands-on understanding of how writing tools changed across several decades.
