Al Doho, Historic neighborhood in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Al Doho, also known as al-Daho, is a historic neighborhood in the Qasr al-Hukm District of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. It consists of mudbrick houses and mosques with traditional architectural styles, and its streets are lined with walls of rough tan plaster and stone, featuring wooden doors and protruding beams.
The area dates back over two hundred years and was formerly known as Haara al-Hilla. It is the last remaining historic neighborhood within the old city walls of Riyadh, and after a development project that began in 2013, it was opened to visitors in 2023.
The neighborhood reflects the social life and traditions of old Riyadh, with its simple construction and local architectural style. Today, it serves as a place where visitors can learn about the city's past and attend cultural events that highlight traditional crafts and customs.
Visitors can explore the neighborhood on foot, as it is compact and best experienced by walking through its narrow lanes. It is open to the public and easily accessible from nearby streets, with the main areas of interest concentrated within a small radius.
Al Doho is the only quarter from the former walled town that is officially recognized by the Riyadh Municipality. Its development project includes the construction of new buildings using traditional methods, blending old and new in a way that is rare in the city.
