Mount Mohican

Mount Mohican is a mountain summit in the Kittatinny Mountains reaching approximately 1,580 feet in elevation and surrounded by forest. The peak is crossed by several hiking trails that lead through varied terrain and tree cover.

Dutch settlers began mining operations in the area during the 17th century, extracting copper from deposits along the ridge. This mining activity shaped the region's development for centuries afterward.

The mountain carries the name of the Native American Mohican tribe and includes sections of the Appalachian Trail connecting different states.

The summit is accessible from multiple starting points with parking available at trailheads near Interstate 80 and New Jersey Route 94. Visitors should bring appropriate footwear and be prepared for changing weather conditions on the trails.

Near the summit lies Sunfish Pond, a glacial lake formed about 18,000 years ago and sitting at high elevation. This mountain water lake offers visitors a striking natural feature shaped by ancient ice age geology.
