Siddhachalam, Jain spiritual retreat in Blairstown, United States
Siddhachalam is a Jain pilgrimage and retreat center set on a wooded hill in northwestern New Jersey, with temples, meditation spaces, and walking trails. The grounds include several structures built to serve different forms of spiritual practice.
The center was founded in 1983 when Acharya Sushil Kumarji transformed an abandoned children's summer camp into a Jain pilgrimage site. It was the first place of its kind outside India.
The temples here hold marble statues of different Tirthankaras, showing how various branches of Jainism exist side by side without division. Visitors notice how these different traditions are brought together with mutual respect.
Visitors can join religious events or meditation programs and stay overnight on the grounds while following conduct guidelines that reflect monastic life. Checking in advance about current programs helps plan a visit that fits expectations.
The grounds include a recreation of the Shikharji pilgrimage paths, one of the holiest sites in Jainism, winding through the forested land. This allows devotees to symbolically complete this journey without traveling to India.
