Ghost Ship, Outdoor sculpture on Eastbank Esplanade in Portland, US.
Ghost Ship is an outdoor sculpture made from stainless steel and art glass positioned along the Eastbank Esplanade near the water's edge. The structure features a hexagonal design and rises to about 2.4 meters (8 feet) tall.
The sculpture was created in 2001 by artists James Harrison and Rigga through the Portland Development Commission's Percent for Art funding program. It emerged as part of a larger artistic initiative to shape the waterfront area.
The sculpture represents Portland's maritime heritage and commemorates vessels that encountered difficulties while navigating through the Columbia River bar.
The sculpture sits at 5 Southeast Madison Avenue and is illuminated by internal lighting during evening hours. It is accessible from the esplanade pathway and offers views toward the river.
The sculpture is part of a series of four art installations spread along the esplanade. Together with works like Echo Gate, Stack Stalk, and Alluvial Wall, they form a connected artistic landscape.
