Baxter Arena, arena at the University of Nebraska Omaha

Baxter Arena is a sports arena at the Aksarben Village development in Omaha, Nebraska, owned and operated by the University of Nebraska Omaha. It has a fixed-seat capacity of 7,898, with 17 luxury suites, 750 club seats and a 750-seat student section. Two separate ice sheets serve the Mavericks: one in the main arena for games and a second dedicated practice rink, which is the most visible to visitors entering through the main gate.

Construction began in 2014 and was funded through donations and university resources to replace the aging Civic Auditorium. The first hockey game took place on October 23, 2015, between Omaha and the Air Force Academy.

The arena's name comes from Baxter Auto, a group of Omaha-area car dealerships that bought the naming rights in June 2015 for $400,000 a year over ten years. UNO has committed at least a third of the venue's ice time to community purposes, and area school districts including Omaha Public Schools moved their high school graduations here by 2016.

The arena sits in the Aksarben Village development, integrated with the UNO campus, at street level about 1,030 feet above sea level. Entering through the main gate, visitors see the practice ice sheet first rather than the main rink. UNO has committed at least a third of the venue's ice time to community purposes.

The practice rink sits closest to the main entrance, so visitors entering the building see community ice before the game sheet. Trev Alberts, then Mavericks athletic director, said this would probably be the first and only arena whose focal point is the community ice.
