Snowflake Mill, Paper mill in Snowflake, Arizona, US
Snowflake Mill was a paper manufacturing facility in Arizona that ran two production machines making newsprint and uncoated fine paper in large quantities annually. The plant specialized in processing recycled materials through deinking pulp lines for reuse into finished products.
The facility started production in 1961 with four paper machines and changed ownership several times before closing in 2012 under Abitibi-Consolidated. Across more than five decades it played a significant role in Arizona's manufacturing landscape.
The operation became known locally for processing recycled paper and teaching nearby residents about sustainable manufacturing methods through its daily work. People saw the facility as part of their community's economy and environmental responsibility.
The facility is no longer accessible to the public as it closed in 2012 and remains in a dormant state. Visitors can observe the industrial structures from a distance but cannot enter the grounds or tour the interior.
The plant discharged wastewater into Dry Lake until 1996 and later used Twin Lakes before installing a treatment facility in 1992 to improve water quality. This shift demonstrates how industrial production affected local water bodies and drove improvements in environmental practices.
