Standin' on the Corner Park, Urban park in Winslow, United States.
Standin' on the Corner Park is a small city park in Winslow, Arizona, created to honor the town's mention in a famous song. The park holds a bronze figure with a guitar, a large Route 66 shield, and a painted wall showing the reflection of a Ford truck.
The park opened in September 1999 as a way to honor a song that brought attention to Winslow across the United States. A second statue was added later to pay tribute to band member Glenn Frey.
The park takes its name from a line in a song that put Winslow on the map for travelers across the country. People come specifically to stand in front of the bronze figures and mural, recreating the scene described in those lyrics.
The park sits at the corner of Second Street and Kinsley Avenue in downtown Winslow and is open to visitors anytime. A small shop next to the installation sells souvenirs and makes for a quick stop.
The mural uses an illusion technique to show windows, a woman, and a band member all inside a painted reflection. Artist John Pugh created the effect so convincingly that you only notice how flat the wall truly is when you step close.
