Hoffman Bridge, Covered bridge in Crabtree, United States.
Hoffman Bridge is a covered wooden structure in Crabtree that spans Crabtree Creek with Gothic-style windows on each side and exposed roof trusses visible from within. The bridge measures approximately 90 feet in length and maintains its original construction details throughout.
Lee Hoffman built this bridge in 1936 using hand tools, demonstrating the craftsmanship of the era. The structure earned recognition on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, acknowledging its historical importance.
The bridge represents Oregon's commitment to preserving its historic covered bridges and belongs to a collection of similar structures found throughout the state. Visitors can still cross it by car today, keeping the tradition of using these wooden passages alive.
The bridge is located on Hungry Hill Drive and remains open to vehicle traffic, allowing visitors to drive across it. Access to the creek below is available for those interested in swimming or fishing at the sandy banks.
The structure uses a Howe truss design with a trapezoidal portal, a distinctive engineering approach for its time. This specialized design allowed the builder to create a sturdy bridge with limited materials and hand tools.
