Donut Wheel is a single-story shop with a distinctive zig-zag concrete roof and large rectangular windows along First Street. The building displays characteristic mid-century architecture and serves a small selection of handmade doughnuts.
Jack and Jean Weil opened Jack's Donut Wheel in 1962, later renamed Donut Wheel, securing a piece of local retail history. The site previously housed a grocery store from 1941 before being converted in 1958 for the new purpose.
The shop is run by Savanna Taing, who carries forward traditional recipes from her Cambodian parents Mary and Mok Tang, keeping a family story alive in the community.
The shop sits near multiple dining venues, theaters, and shopping locations in downtown, with ample parking available. The location makes it easy to visit on foot or by car.
German architect Hans J. Schiller, who fled Nazi Germany, designed the building in 1958 with distinctive Googie-style architecture. His design remains visible today in the futuristic details and unusual roof shape.
