An-Nur Jamek Mosque, Labuan, Central mosque in Labuan, Malaysia
The An-Nur Jamek Mosque combines Brunei Malay and Turkish architectural styles, with a prominent central dome and two tall minarets that rise above the surrounding area. Inside, three lecture halls and a library serve the community's educational and spiritual needs.
Construction started in 1982 and the building was completed in 1987, followed by an official opening ceremony in 1988. This development marked an important moment for religious infrastructure in the territory.
The mosque serves as the heart of Islamic community life in Labuan, drawing worshippers and visitors throughout the week. People gather here not only for prayers but also to participate in classes and use the library for religious study.
The mosque is open daily from early morning through late evening and has clear access points for visitors. Guests should wear modest clothing and remove their shoes before entering, with designated areas provided for this purpose.
The design was created by a local architectural firm that incorporated geometric patterns and symmetrical structures in an innovative way. This approach produced a visually balanced building that stands apart from typical mosque designs.
