Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, Art Nouveau mansion in George Town, Malaysia.
Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion is an indigo-blue building with 38 rooms, five granite courtyards, and seven staircases spread across two floors. The structure features 220 timber louvre windows that are carefully arranged throughout the façade.
The building was constructed in the late 1800s as the home and business center of merchant Cheong Fatt Tze. It remained his private domain for years before eventually opening to the public.
The building mixes Chinese Imperial design with European touches like Gothic windows and stained glass throughout the rooms. This combination shows how local merchants blended different cultures into their homes during the 1800s.
The building now functions as a hotel and museum with daily English tours and an on-site restaurant. Access is straightforward, and visitors can explore the rooms without much difficulty.
Water channels run from the roof through ceilings and walls into the central courtyard, guided by Feng Shui principles. This system was a carefully planned solution for both water management and spiritual harmony.
