Komtar Skywalk, Glass footbridge at Komtar Tower in George Town, Malaysia
Komtar Skywalk is a glass footbridge extending 16 meters outward from the 68th floor of Komtar Tower in George Town. It sits approximately 249 meters above ground and offers unobstructed views across the city and surrounding areas.
The Skywalk opened in 2016 as part of a renovation project that transformed Komtar Tower from an underused building into a major visitor destination. This project marked a significant shift in the tower's purpose and public role.
The glass bridge showcases contemporary Malaysian design and allows visitors to observe how colonial and modern Asian buildings coexist throughout George Town. From this vantage point, the city's architectural layers become visible.
Visitors reach the Skywalk via high-speed elevators that transport them to the observation deck. Visiting in early morning or late afternoon typically provides the best lighting for photographs and fewer crowds.
The horseshoe-shaped structure features specially heat-treated glass panels that underwent rigorous safety testing before installation. This transparent design allows visitors to look directly downward, creating an uncommon sense of exposure.
