The name comes from a tropical fruit tree that was once grown widely across the island for use in cooking and traditional remedies. You can still see how the neighborhood reflects its agricultural roots, with green spaces mixed among the residential areas.
The main road has regular bus connections to George Town center and the airport, making it easy to get around. The area is relatively flat and walkable, with shops and everyday services spread throughout the neighborhood.
A major university has occupied a large campus here since 1969, originally built on land that was used for military purposes. The institution has become integral to the neighborhood, bringing students and activity to the area.
