The octagonal basket-shaped structure of the Sabah Art Gallery extends over 1.7 hectares of land in the Layang district of Kota Kinabalu.
Established in 1984 under the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah, the gallery received its green building certification in 2012 from the Building Index Accreditation Panel.
The gallery maintains a collection of over 3,000 artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and installations that represent both local and international artistic expressions.
Located 7 kilometers from the city center, the gallery opens daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM except on public holidays and offers regular exhibitions, workshops, and seminars.
The building incorporates renewable energy systems and rainwater harvesting for its automatic lighting and air conditioning operations, marking it as the first green building in Borneo.
