Kota Bridge, Klang, Double-deck bridge in Klang, Malaysia.
Kota Bridge is a double-level structure spanning approximately 438 meters across the Klang River, built with a truss girder design and about 6.7 meters wide. The lower deck accommodates pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists for daily crossings, while the upper level functions as a public recreational area.
Construction took place between 1958 and 1960 to replace the Belfield Bridge that had been destroyed during World War II. The Dorman Long Engineering Limited company built the structure, which was subsequently inaugurated and became part of Klang's transportation network.
The bridge takes its name from the nearby Bukit Kota Palace and serves as a defining landmark for Klang's skyline. Today, locals and visitors use the lower level for daily crossings while the upper deck has become a social gathering space for recreation.
The lower deck serves pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists making daily crossings, while the upper deck offers a quieter space for walking and leisure. Choose your route based on your mode of transportation or desire for a peaceful walk along the river.
The bridge was built by the same company that engineered the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge, making it Malaysia's first double-level bridge. This connection to an iconic international construction project adds unexpected prestige to Klang's local infrastructure.
