Officially opened on August 10, 2009, by Malacca State Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam, this facility became the second planetarium in the state and was constructed at a cost of MYR20 million.
The building incorporates Islamic architectural elements with UFO landing motifs, reflecting regional cultural influences while promoting STEM education and scientific curiosity among Malaysian students and visitors.
Operating daily from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the planetarium charges RM10 for Malaysian adults and RM15 for foreigners, with children paying RM5 regardless of nationality.
Despite operational challenges including maintenance issues and temporary closures, the facility was recognized as one of Asia's largest planetariums before facing structural problems in 2018-2019.
