Huanta Province

Huanta Province spans 3,878 square kilometers across the northern section of Ayacucho, containing twelve districts with varied elevations and ecological zones.

The province experienced a significant rebellion between 1825 and 1828, when local communities joined forces against the newly established Peruvian government.

Indigenous Quechua traditions remain strong in the province, with 67 percent of residents speaking Quechua as their primary language at home.

The province connects to major cities through regional road networks, with the administrative center located in Huanta city at 2,628 meters elevation.

Archaeological sites such as Inka Raqay, Kunturmarka, and Marayniyuq reveal the ancestral settlements scattered throughout the provincial territory.
