Almas Tower, High-tech skyscraper in Jumeirah Lake Towers, United Arab Emirates
This office tower reaches 363 meters in height with 68 floors above ground and 5 basement levels on an artificial island in Jumeirah Lake Towers. The structure consists of a central core surrounded by two elliptical towers that rest on a three-story podium.
Construction began in 2005 based on a design by architectural firm Atkins, with the building completed in 2009. Until the opening of Burj Khalifa that same year, it held the title of Dubai's tallest building and marked a key moment in the city's vertical expansion.
The name translates to diamond in Arabic and reflects the building's role as headquarters for the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre and Dubai Diamond Exchange, where international trading of precious stones and other commodities takes place. Businesspeople from around the world come here to negotiate deals and sign contracts, making the site a working hub for global commerce.
The building contains 35 elevators, reserved parking spaces, conference facilities, and prayer rooms available to office tenants and visitors. Its location on an island makes the site accessible via connecting bridges from the surrounding Jumeirah Lake Towers neighborhood.
The podium level divides into eight connected triangles that create a geometric base for the elliptical forms above. This arrangement provides multiple entry points and distributes structural weight evenly across the artificial island footprint.
