Nakheel Tower, High-rise building in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Nakheel Tower is a proposed skyscraper in Dubai consisting of four interconnected towers linked by sky bridges spanning 228 floors. The structure was designed to combine functional spaces with a distinctive architectural form, bringing together residential and commercial elements.
The project started in 2008 but was halted in January 2009 during the global financial crisis and permanently canceled in December 2009. Economic challenges of that period resulted in the abandonment of this ambitious development.
The architectural design by Woods Bagot combines high-tech and postmodern elements, reflecting Dubai's advancement in contemporary building technology.
The design included 32 elevators to move occupants between different levels and connect residential and commercial spaces. Since construction was never completed, visitors today can only explore the history of this ambitious proposal through architectural archives and exhibits.
The tower's planned height remained uncertain for years, ranging from 700 meters to 1600 meters before the team settled on 1400 meters. These shifting projections reflect how ambitious designs evolved during the planning process.
