Al Dhafra Air Base, Military air base in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Al Dhafra Air Base is a military airfield in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, located roughly thirty kilometers south of the city. Two parallel runways stretch for several kilometers and allow operations of fighter jets, tankers, and transport aircraft.
The base began operations in the early 1990s and expanded its role during regional conflicts. Several air forces have since stationed units on the site.
The base maintains strong connections between American, French, and Emirati military personnel through joint training exercises and shared operational responsibilities.
Access is restricted to military authorization only, and civilian visitors are not normally permitted inside. Anyone wishing to see the area from a distance can view the surroundings from public roads.
Maintenance hangars on the grounds can fully house large transport aircraft and enable technical work in extreme temperatures. Fuel storage facilities support missions that extend into the Indian Ocean.
