Al Marmoom Desert Conservation Reserve

The desert reserve encompasses 40 hectares of sand dunes, gravel plains, and wetlands, creating diverse habitats for desert wildlife and migratory birds.

The reserve, established in January 2018, includes the Saruq Al Hadid Archaeological Site, revealing an Iron Age metallurgical center with tools from Palaeolithic periods.

The reserve integrates traditional desert activities like falconry with environmental education programs at the Marmoom Biosphere Centre.

Visitors can access observation platforms, an 84-kilometer cycling track, and designated areas for wildlife viewing throughout the unfenced conservation area.

Al Marmoom hosts 360 bird species, including flamingo flocks of up to 500 individuals, and provides sanctuary for 19 endangered animal species.
