Ksamil, Beach resort in Sarandë District, Albania
Ksamil sits between the Ionian Sea and Butrint Lagoon, with three small islands just offshore. These islands are easy to reach and offer excellent swimming in shallow, clear waters surrounded by sandy beaches.
The village was founded in the 1960s as a planned settlement focused on olive oil, lemon, and tangerine farming. It later transformed into a place where visitors came to enjoy its position between sea and lagoon.
The village brings together Albanian, Greek, and Orthodox traditions that coexist in everyday life. You notice this blend in local restaurants and streets, where different communities share the same spaces.
You can reach the village by road from Saranda just north of here. The islands are easy to access by boat or by swimming from the main shore.
The three islands create natural swimming areas with white sand and sit within a protected nature reserve. This reserve matters because it is home to rare birds and plants not found elsewhere in the region.
