Zla Kolata

Zla Kolata is an alpine summit positioned along the Montenegro-Albania border, reaching approximately 2,534 meters in elevation. The peak features sheer limestone faces and offers expansive views across the Dinaric Alps range.

The mountain has served as the natural border between the two countries since diplomatic agreements formalized the boundary in 1913. This established it as an internationally recognized frontier marker.

Shepherds from Albanian and Montenegrin villages use the slopes for seasonal grazing and maintain simple settlements during warmer months. This long-standing pastoral practice shapes the character of the region today.

Climbing the peak requires technical equipment and experienced guides, with access generally available from June through September. Plan your ascent carefully, as mountain conditions can change rapidly.

The mountain contains unexplored cave systems within its limestone interior, featuring numerous vertical shafts that descend into darkness. These hidden underground networks may hold geological and biological secrets yet to be discovered.
