Rosi Peak, Mountain summit in Kukës County, Albania.
Rosi Peak is a mountain summit at 2,523 meters that straddles the border between Albania and Montenegro within the Prokletije mountain range. The peak displays karstic geological formations shaped by millions of years of natural processes.
The Prokletije range where Rosi Peak stands formed millions of years ago through alpine mountain building and has served as a natural boundary in the region since then. Over centuries, these mountains marked territorial divisions among different Balkan populations.
Shepherds use the highlands around Rosi Peak for seasonal grazing and maintain traditional pastoral practices that have shaped these mountains for generations. Their presence is visible through simple shelters and grazing paths that define the landscape.
The climb follows a hiking trail of roughly 9 to 10 kilometers starting from Vusanje village at about 1,060 meters, with an elevation gain of around 1,500 meters. The best time to hike is from May through October when conditions are safer and snow is less likely.
From the summit, visitors can look into two countries at once since the border runs directly across the mountain ridge. This geographical feature makes Rosi Peak a rare spot where one can literally stand with a foot in each country.
