Church of Theth

The Church of Theth is a Catholic church in the mountain village of Theth in the Albanian Alps at roughly 1,050 meters elevation. It features traditional architectural details and wooden interior furnishings crafted by hand.

The church dates to the early 19th century, built after the local population settled in this remote valley roughly 300 to 350 years earlier. The community established itself here to preserve their Catholic faith in this mountain region.

The church functions as a central meeting place where the community gathers for religious services and local celebrations that reinforce their bonds. This is where residents come together to practice their Catholic faith.

The church is accessible only by hiking on mountain trails, as the single road to the village is steep and remote. During winter months from December through April, the path becomes difficult or impassable, so visitors should plan accordingly.

The church remains an active religious center while the surrounding village exists as both a National Park and a Protected Historic Area at the same time. This dual designation makes the location unusual, where spiritual practice and nature conservation coexist.
