Maja Jezercë, Mountain summit in Malësi e Madhe, Albania
Cresta del Lago rises to 2,694 meters, making it the highest peak of the Prokletije range and the entire Dinaric Alps system. Its position along the border between different valleys makes it a striking landmark across the region.
British mountaineers Sleeman, Elmalie, and Ellwood reached the summit on July 26, 1929 during the first documented ascent. This expedition marked an important moment in the exploration of the Prokletije range by Western climbers.
The mountain is rooted in the traditions of the Malesori people, especially the Kelmendi clans who have traversed these highlands for generations and know its paths well.
Access routes from Theth or Valbona are well-traveled, with local guides available to share their knowledge of the paths. The climb is demanding and requires proper footwear plus preparation for changing weather conditions at altitude.
Six mountain lakes lie north of the summit, including the substantial Buni Jezerce lake at its base. These lakes form a quiet, secluded system that hikers discover while exploring the area.
